Sirius of the Week for November 19 - 25, 2000
Meet a full-blooded Texas Terrier, Frisky Pepper Tornado
Rex, a Scottish Terrier/Schnauzer mutt that was adopted from the Humane
Society as a tiny, timid pup in 1989. Now, at 11 years, she is 25 pounds of
muscle and energy, fully living up to her name. Frisky has her own large
section of photos and commentary on
LARVALBUG'S HOME PAGE,
including interactive "play" photos, as well as galleries of her vacations, friends
and puppy pics.
Although she has lived her entire life in Austin, Frisky has traveled to
such exotic locations as mountains, seashores and Waco. She enjoys camping,
but fully appreciates the luxuries of a comfortable motel room. Other
activities that Frisky enjoys are kayaking, canoeing, hiking, swimming and
wildlife watching. Some of her favorite 4-letter words are "walk," "ride,"
and "play."
Frisky stays in shape with at least five 2-4 miles walks a week with one or
both of her owners. As these walks often occur in wild settings, she
receives just as many brushings to remove the inevitable collection of
burrs, twigs, leaves and small arthropods that she brings home in her fur.
After winning 1st place in her basic obedience class as a youth, she has
increased her repertoire of understood commands to include the frivolous
"sit-up," "roll over," and "spin around" as well as the more important "open
up" - which means to sit and open her mouth for a pill (she thinks it's a
treat and who are mom and dad to disillusion her?), "stay still" - useful during
baths, and "flea check" - at which she allows herself to be turned on her
back with her bare belly exposed so her people can get rid of any tiny intruders.
By far, Frisky's favorite activity is PLAY, and games include tug-of-war,
hide-and-seek, and paper chase (a keep-away game with wadded up paper). This
penchant for paper has made Frisky an enthusiastic present opener and she
enjoys the wrappings as much as the gift inside.
