Sirius of the Week for Oct. 29 - Nov. 4, 2000
Kawoni is a miniature Schnauzer. Her name is Cherokee for the month of
April; she was born three and a half years ago. She lives on a farm in
East Texas with her best friend, "getle". She eats Pedigree brand dog
food for breakfast and gets a "snack" or two in the evenings. This is
usually a milkbone, but sometimes it's a table scrap. Her "treat" is a
rawhide bone or a pig's ear. Her favorite toy is a large, soft, knotted
rope.
She protects her property vigorously. Once she "attacked" a Great
Dane named Trena and another time a Labrador retriever named Maggie when
they got too close. Most of the day she stays on the front porch. She
"guards" her territory from squirrels, rabbits, crows and deer by
running the 50 feet end to end as her duties require. Kawoni is also a night
watchdog and warns the 'possums, 'coons and coyetes should they come
into her range.
("getle" address means "dog" in Cherokee. It is
pronounced "ghee/tlee".)
