Sirius of the Week for March 19 - 25, 2000.
Meet Brittany (the miniature Schnauzer) and Beau (the Yorkshire terrier).
They live with their mom and dad in Columbia, MD. They are about 6 1/2
years old, and were born about 4 weeks apart. They've been raised together
(they were in the same playpen) and are great companions for each other (as
well as for mom and dad). They still love to play together and hang out
together.
Brittany is about 12 pounds. She's the diva, or "Miss Priss", and
definately a daddy's girl. Beau is the little guy, at about 4 1/2 pounds.
He's also the lover, and very affectionate. Brittany likes affection too;
she especially loves to have her head rubbed. (She can sit and have her
head rubbed for a very long time.) Brittany is happy doing nothing, but
Beau is the instigator. He also likes to have whatever Brittany has.
Their mom says they are the most cuddled, pampered, and spoiled dogs. They
sleep on the bed (of course). Beau is normally under the covers, Brittany
over. They have in house-grooming to keep them looking neat. They also
had some in-house training, to teach them proper dog behavior. But mom
found it hard to train them (it's so hard being strict with them!),
although everyone did learn eventually. And, Beau and Brittany both behave
well for dad -- they won't jump in or out of the car, for example, without
dad's say so.
Beau also has been involved in Pets on Wheels visiting the Lorien Nursing
Home. He had to pass a test to make sure he didn't react to loud noises
and to make sure he dealt well with strangers. Both Beau and mom enjoyed
it and residents of the nursing home liked having Beau visit with them.
